Our 1.5 cubic foot Manganese Greensand filter can remove iron, manganese and sulfur from your water! The system operates in a way similar to a water softener, and uses potassium permanganate to regenerate the filter bed. With proper operation the filter media will last three to five years before requiring replacement. Your water should not contain more than 15 ppm dissolved iron or manganese and 5 ppm hydrogen sulfide - higher concentrations may require pre-treatment - please email the factory for more information. Our automatic backwashing Manganese Greensand filters use the Autotrol 268-FA valve with a timer-based 440i control. The 440i controls the backwash cycle assuring dependability and high efficiency. The media tank, manufactured by Structural, is poly lined, fiberglass reinforced and supplied in an off-white color. A system by-pass valve is included.

Description

Manganese Greensand Media - Manganese Greensand is an effective media for the reduction of iron and hydrogen sulfide from water through oxidation and filtration. Iron is oxidized and precipitated by contact with the greensand media, and sulfur (hydrogen sulfide) is reduced by oxidation to an insoluble sulfur precipitate. These iron and sulfur precipitates are then filtered and removed during the automatic backwashing/regeneration process. After some time in service, the oxidizing capacity of the manganese greensand is reduced, and regeneration of the bed is required. Automatic regeneration with potassium permanganate restores the oxidizing potential of the greensand bed, providing for continued removal of iron and sulfur from your water. For proper use of a manganese greensand filter, your water pH should be within the range of 6.2 to 8.5 standard units, with iron concentration not to exceed 15 ppm, and sulfur as hydrogen sulfide not to exceed 5 ppm. High Flow Riser & Backwash - Our manganese greensand filter systems use a high flow 1.05" distributor with a gravel underbed to ensure effective performance, and proper distribution of flow throughout the bed. The Autotrol control valve automatically delivers the high backwash rate required for proper cleaning and reclassification of the M/G filter bed. Included!

Pipe Connections - Pipe connections are available in 3/4" or 1", in both copper and PVC - please select the connection that best suits your application. Free!
Potassium Permangnate - Potassium Permangnate is used to regenerate a Manganese Greensand filter. This rediish-purple powder is placed into the included feeder tank, and the unit automatically draws the required quantity of potassium permangnate into the system during regeneration (2 ounces per cubic foot, 2 to 4 ounces per regeneration depending on system size). Potassium Permanganate is availabe in a 30 pound case quantity. Additional $255
Insulating Tank Jacket - Tank jackets are available that add a designer look to your filter. Jackets also provide insulation, and prevent “sweating” in damp locations. Tank jackets must be used when installing a filter out-of-doors. Jackets are single piece in almond – not available for 2 cubic foot sized filter. Additional $30
